Zillertal dialect.

In Zillertal you should understand the dialect

According to legend, the Zillertal people are a sneaky mountain people who communicate by yodeling. Well, not sneaky, maybe a little stubborn at times, but all the more lovable once you get to know her. And even if it may not sound like it to some people, the locals do converse with each other in German, more or less modified of course. In the Zillertal, a much more touristy place, the dialect is still actively spoken, lived and loved today. Be it in the hotel industry, in the hospitality industry or simply privately.

If you come to Tyrol for the first time and know a few of these Zillertal dialect words and can perhaps even pronounce them correctly, it will not only make communication easier, but will also make many a stubborn Zillertal heart soft as butter.

The Zillertal has some language peculiarities. For example, instead of "then" the word "often", pronounced "often", or "oftang" is used. In contrast to the surrounding Inn Valley, in Zillertal “henn” is used instead of “senn”, which means “are”. E.g.: “Oftang hen ma hoam gongen.” means "Then we went home." In addition, there is sometimes no accusative case: “I hon da geang.” instead of “I hon di geang.” (“I like you.”)

The Zillertal dialect gives Zillertal residents the opportunity to exchange ideas with each other in the way they were always used to. The dialect is definitely worth reading and learning! The language of our ancestors, which is often no longer spoken today.
